The Prometal Gabon industrial project stands out as one of the first major outcomes of the commitments made at the Gabon-France 2024 Forum, an economic event organised to attract productive investment to support the transformation of the national economy. With an investment of 38 billion CFA francs, this initiative demonstrates the government and its partners’ intention to turn their stated goals into tangible achievements for the benefit of the population.
This project focuses on the construction of a modern factory able to produce up to 60,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel per year. This new industrial capacity will enable the country to significantly reduce its reliance on imports of construction materials, whilst strengthening its self-sufficiency in production. Beyond industrial performance, the project meets a strategic challenge : to develop a local value chain that can sustainably support the needs of the domestic market.
The economic and social impact is expected to be particularly positive. The development is set to create 1,350 jobs, thereby offering new career opportunities for young people in Gabon. Through these direct and indirect recruitment initiatives, Prometal Gabon will contribute to skills development, the boosting of the economy and the emergence of a skilled working force in the industrial sector.
This new production facility will also be a key driver in supporting major infrastructure projects across the country. By ensuring greater availability of reinforcing steel on the market, it will help secure supplies to construction sites, reduce delivery times and, ultimately, improve the competitiveness of the construction sector.
